Which type of system acts as both a heating system and air conditioning system?

A split system and a multi-split system offer both heating and cooling to your home and are less costly to install and maintain. On the other hand, ducted air conditioning provides both cooling and heating but is expensive. An HVAC split system has two units – an outdoor unit that contains the condenser and compressor and an indoor unit that contains a blower and the evaporator coil. This split system is also called a central heating and air conditioning system. The outdoor HVAC unit uses refrigerants, boilers, and compressors to condition the air. It also has a fan for blowing out the hot air. The indoor unit has a heat pump or furnace that helps convert refrigerant and circulate air. The split system is more energy-efficient and has lower operating costs, and is the most preferred HVAC system. They are usually large and easy to see from outside. It is easy to install since it doesn’t have ductwork. A split system only connects to one indoor unit and can conveniently fit into a room without a major renovation. A multi-split unit connects up to five indoor units from a single outdoor unit. This unit lets you cool multiple rooms simultaneously. While a split system only has one air outlet, a multi-split system has five air outlets connected to one compressor through refrigerant lines. The interior unit can be wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted, or it can be floor standing. The indoor unit is also connected to the outdoor unit by refrigerant lines and power cables. A multi-split heat pump works by removing heat from the outside and transferring it indoors. On the other hand, a ducted air conditioning system effectively cools and heats the entire house. It also has an outdoor unit, an indoor or central unit usually installed in the ceiling or under the floor.
